Why is magnesia so important in the rubber industry?
Magnesium oxide is an active agent of natural rubber latex. It is sometimes used as a reinforcing agent and colorant. According to its content, it can be divided into three kinds: high purity magnesium oxide, light magnesium oxide and active magnesium oxide. It is the most important inorganic active agent in the rubber industry. The addition of rubber compound can not only accelerate the curing rate, but also improve the cross-linking degree. It can activate thiazoles, sulfonamides, guanidine and thiuram accelerators. Widely used in all kinds of rubber products, especially for transparent rubber products and food contact products.
50 percent of magnesium oxide industry grade goes to the rubber industry. As an important reactant of rubber vulcanization, magnesium oxide is one of the raw materials for rubber manufacturing. Magnesium oxide can strengthen the hardening of rubber. Magnesium oxide is also an important additive for automobile tires. In addition to vulcanization, magnesium oxide can greatly improve the heat conductivity of rubber, which contributes to the heat dissipation of tires and ensures driving safety. Magnesium oxide additives also prevent the erosion of rubber by mold organisms or ultraviolet rays.
