Let’s take a look at 5 examples of surface modification of talc-3
3. Talc powder silane coupling agent modification
Talc powder is a polar water-insoluble substance. When it is dispersed in an organic polymer resin with extremely low polarity, the difference in polarity causes poor compatibility between the two. Direct or excessive filling often leads to certain mechanical properties of the material being reduced and brittleness, which has a negative impact on the processing performance and use performance of the product. Silane coupling agent can be used to modify the surface of talc filler.
(1) Modification method
Mix silane coupling agent (such as KH-570) into a solution and stir evenly. Drop the solution into the dried talc powder and stir for 40-60 minutes to allow the treatment agent to fully cover the filler. Then heat and dry to obtain the modified talc powder.
(2) Application characteristics
Talc powder surface-modified by silane coupling agent can be used as a filler for polymer materials to significantly improve the strength and modulus of the filling system. The modification effect is good and has good practical application value.
